The Walking Dead Season 1 Finale, Spoiler :)
Sharing, Zombies December 7th, 2010

If you know my taste in movies well enough, you know that I’m a big zombie movie fan. You can read a previous post here - Josh Lim visits Zombieland.
So when I heard of The Walking Dead a few months back, I was very excited. As it is a big budget production of a zombie TV series - about 2-3 have come before this, but none at this level of success and establishment - The Walking Dead is based on a comic book series.
The Walking Dead is currently showing on Astro (Channel FX HD), it started on November 5th. The US Airdate was 31 October, which isn’t too bad - it means we in Malaysia are just a week behind. So you’ll probably see the season finale in a week from now.
If you’re coming across this post, you’re either an avid reader of my blog, or more likely, something Googling to find out the season one finale of The Walking Dead, titled “TS-19″.
And like me, you’re probably wondering - What did the scientist/doctor (Edwin Jenner) whisper to the sheriff (Rick Grimes)?
Since I’m nice, the spoiler is after the Read More button.
Pics from the Che Che New York x Hello Kitty new launch at Mid Valley!
Advertlets Bloggers, Parties & Events December 6th, 2010
Last Friday, I went with blogger Magdeline “Mag-a-licious” Wang to check out the launch of Che Che New York’s new Hello Kitty collection. You may remember the first post here where I previously covered another launch.

Che Che caters to a female audience, so there nothing that I could possibly use myself, but it was a good opportunity to take some happy colourful shots. What do you think of the pics? Personally I think they are quite tastefully done, incorporating the ‘kawaiiness’ of Hello Kitty with the chic style of Che Che New York. Something I would use if I were a girl. Or a ‘fabulous’ guy, if you get what I mean. Colors are mostly from the palette of white, brown, black and pink.
I met Megan Tan, the 8TV Quickie host! (Now I’ve met all of the 8TV Quickie hosts, ahah!)
And in case you’re wondering, I asked her if it’s a good time to be a “Megan”. Please don’t do the same, I’m sure she gets asked it all the time.

Look familiar?

Pic above (from left):
Michie Kin of fashion brand “The Kins”, Natacha Meuneir (wrote about her here previously), Bridgette Liberty Yu, Winnie Loo (of A Cut Above fame), Lavin Seow, Leng Yein (you may know her from the giant marriage proposal billboard that was put up near Tropicana City Mall, or her many pictures).
The models were from Seventeen Magazine featured models, if I remember correctly, as the collection is catered to younger females.

And more pictures from the collection -

Cute, kan?
Anyway, if you wish to check it out, Che Che New York is located at:

Better late than never: MTV World Stage 2010 pics (plus, me and the Wonder Girls!)
Advertlets Bloggers, Parties & Events December 4th, 2010
Super overdue
But anyway, here are the photos from MTV World Stage 2010. Since you’ve probably seen all the pictures of the artists by now, I’ll just show some of the people I met along the way
Thanks to Celcom for the tickets to the After Party, and thanks to Sony for use of the Sony NEX (all pictures were shot with the NEX-3 with kit lens).
First off, we have Wai Yan camwhoring on the way there…

Who’s cuter?

And…upon arriving.

That’s XOXO, Malaysia’s first English girl pop group. Or rather, 3/4 of them. You can check out their fan page here
If the girl to the right looks familiar, it’s because you saw her in these posts - Dalvin Parsh was a Miss Universe Malaysia 2010 finalist. Here’s another shot of them.

And…

On the right is Zher from the 8TV Quickie. A skinny, bubbly girl

With the Advertlets Bloggers: Samantha Kong, Jeremy Choy, Jason Ong, Xiangcool, Azrin, Jon YKT.

And of course…me and the Wonder Girls
They were walking around in the crowd, but wearing masks to avoid being spotted. I was lucky to spot them.

Here are a few more shots of them on stage. Standing in the crowd, these are the best shots I could get.

Me and Joanne Kay. My favourite local celebrity lookalike

Malaysians - read this before you buy an iPad
Sharing, iPhone 4 December 4th, 2010

Image from SoyaCincau.com
I’ve had an iPad for the past few months since August 2010 (from Australia, 32GB Wi-Fi model), and recently hype about the iPad in Malaysia is heightened due to Maxis announcing the data plans for iPad. In summary, if you are planning to buy an iPad (whether Wi-Fi or 3G), here are three important things you need to know:
1. Don’t buy the iPad now (Dec 2010). The iPad 2 comes out between January-April 2011.
2. Maxis is not selling the iPad, just the data plan.
3. Choose the right data plan. Maxis, Digi & Celcom all offer “iPad plans”. The term “iPad plan” is a bit of a misnomer actually, I’ll explain why later.
4.You may waste money paying for an ‘iPad plan’, when you just have to cut the SIM card.
Okay, the first one, and why:
1. Don’t buy the iPad now (Dec 2010). The iPad 2 comes out between January-April 2011.
If you’re in Malaysia and considering buying an iPad, your options are currently : Plaza Low Yat, or import from Singapore or Australia (those are currently some of the cheapest options).
Apple product cycles are generally one year. As an example, here’s the iPhone release dates so far:
iPhone June 29, 2007
iPhone 3G July 11, 2008
iPhone 3GS July 19, 2009
iPhone 4 June 24, 2010
(Source: Wikipedia)
As of such, with the competing Blackberry Playbook set to be released in early 2011, it is highly likely that the Apple iPad will be announced in the first quarter of 2011, as the first iPad (well, and the only one existing so far) was released on April 3, 2010. In fact, some say that the gap in release date between the Blackberry Playbook and the iPad will only be a few days.
A recent document filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange has revaled that Largan Precision will be the exclusive supplier of the next iPad’s lens module (for the iPad’s camera). They are also the same supplier that provided the 5 megapixel lens module for the iPhone 4.
Just so you know: I have both a Blackberry Torch and a iPhone 3Gs
I’m rooting for both the Apple iPad and the Blackberry Playbook to be good in their own ways. I’ve also tried the 7 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab, and the form factor is really comfortable.

And why wait for the iPad 2? Here are some of the rumours floating around (and you’ll be surprised how many are right).
This screenshot above is a only a mockup, by the way.
China’s Economic Daily says that “There will be two new cameras, one at the front and one rear facing plus a USB port and an improved display screen.” This is the same newspaper that speculated and reported on what was on the original iPad, months ahead of its release.
Here’s a summary, compiled from other rumour reports online:
- Dual Cameras (highly likely - because of the Apple’s Facetime product)
- Retina Display (likely - given that the iPhone 4 set a precedent)
- Micro USB (possible - European regulations demand a common standard for phone chargers)
- Thinner (highly likely - it can’t possibly be thicker, can it? Goes against the trend of all Apple products)
- 7 inch size, not 9 (possible - given that the competing HP Slate, Samsung Galaxy Tab & Blackberry Playbook are all that size. Some people doubt it though.)
- More memory (likely - iPhones have been continuously increasing in minimum storage size)
- 3D projection (maybe not, but we can wish - Apple was recently awarded a patent for 3D projection)
- Carbon fiber body (maybe not, but we can wish - details on the patent here)
There’s a good analysis here.
2. Maxis is not selling the iPad, just the data plan.
So you’ve been hearing the words “Maxis” and iPad” all over Twitter, most people would assume that you can get an iPad from Maxis.
You can’t. It would be great to get a carrier subsidized iPad wouldn’t it? Especially since prices range from RM1,549 for the basic Wi-Fi 16GB model to RM2,599 for the 64GB 3G model.
You have to buy your plan, and then the iPad seperately.
(I still suggest you wait for the iPad 2 though)
Here’s a list of where you can buy the iPad in Malaysia (SoyaCincau.com).
Or you could buy it on the Apple Malaysia Store and get free laser personal engraving.
You can also buy them from an ‘unofficial’ channel, iMalaysian.com, which has been selling the iPad since April 2010. You can call the shop owner, direct (016-2332426 (Louiss Lim) or follow him on Twitter (@louisslim).
He’ll even jailbreak the iPad for you and help you install apps
They are not the cheapest, but I would recommend them for their service.
I have no relation to Louiss Lim despite also being named Lim. However I am very grateful that he help me fix my cracked iPhone 3Gs screen (Yes, I dropped it).
Most amazingly, he fixed it on the spot at Starbucks Mid Valley, within 2-3 hours for a very reasonable price. Yes, at Starbucks. He brought all his equipment. The alternative would have been to send it to Maxis for a week to repair. I don’t think any iPhone owner can survive without his/her phone for a week.
Which brings me to my next point.
3. Choose the right data plan. Maxis, Digi & Celcom all offer “iPad plans”. The term “iPad plan” is a bit of a misnomer actually, I’ll explain why later.

Image from derekdan.com
Maxis: From RM70 - RM200 per month
Celcom: From RM48 - RM98 month
Digi: From RM38-RM158 per month
Yes: No idea. Site is down for maintenance.
Here’s a more complete analysis of local broadband plans that you can use for your iPad, courtesy of SoyaCincau.com
Which is best? I’ll say this summarized: It really depends on where you stay.
While all pride themselves on having ‘the best network’ or the ‘largest’ or ‘fastest’ or ‘done right’, in the end it really boils down to where you stay, as coverage differs by location. A quick survey of your own followers on Twitter will yield wildly differing service quality reports on the SAME network, as long as your friends don’t all stay in the same place
Best if you ask people that have experience using the particular wireless broadband of your choosing in the areas where you stay, or the places that you frequent.
Even urban areas are not exempt - have you been to Rootz, the rooftop R&B club in Lot 10? You can’t get any cellphone coverage on Maxis, let alone 3G or EDGE.
4.You may waste money paying for an ‘iPad plan’, when you just have to cut the SIM card.
Why pay for this:
When you can do this?

The picture above describes it quite well. The extra bits are just plastic. The working bit is the gold part. Read more on Wired / JohnBenson.net
As LiewCF says - his current Maxis broadband plans are more worth it than the “so called iPad data plans”.
RM48 per month vs RM70 per month. Should you really have to pay an extra RM22 per month just to have a special “iPad plan” (notice that I use that in quotes) just for Maxis to provide you a micro SIM?
Why pay more for that when you can ‘potong‘ your current SIM to become a Micro SIM?
So yeah, that’s it.
Hope you find this post useful. Comment if you already have an iPad, or are planning to get one.
Or you’ve beaten all the levels of Angry Birds on your iPad and you just want to boast
Btw if you would like to win an iPad for free though, check out Energizer Malaysia’s Facebook Page!

Video from Hennessy Artistry 2010 finale party at Mines!
Advertlets Bloggers, Parties & Events October 24th, 2010
Check it out: Advertlets Bloggers & friends at the recent Hennessy Artistry 2010 finale party at the Mines!
Trying out something new here. This was taken by me with a Sony NEX-3, and edited with iMovie (was my first time using the software, took me about 2 hours to edit this). Lighting is a bit bad in some spots, as no additional lighting was used. Hope you like it though!
Regrets:
- Did not capture all the artists/bloggers
- Did not capture MYSELF (argh, how could I forget)
If you wish to tag your friends, the video is here on Facebook: Advertlets Facebook Page - Videos - Hennessy Artistry 2010 Finale with Advertlets Bloggers & Friends

The Wedding of Blogger Wilson Ng of Placesandfoods.com
Advertlets Bloggers, Parties & Events September 29th, 2010
Every now and then, there will be a post here that doesn’t involve clubbing or alcohol. Wait a minute, it’s a chinese wedding, so there’s definitely alcohol! Anyway, I was especially happy to attend, this being the second blogger wedding I’ve been to in my lifetime. This time, it was the wedding of Advertlets Bloggers Wilson Ng & Rachel Ting, who both write on placesandfoods.com

We at Advertlets were happy to be there
From left: Jason Ong, Hanie Hidayah, Josh Lim

Yes, the bubble wrap casing is cute, isn’t it? Ai Li is fascinated with the iPad …if she gets one, she can call it her AiPad
You’ll notice that the photos look slightly different. First time using a Nikon D300 with speedlight on this blog, it was Jason Ong’s camera. Most of these shots here are by me, although Jason took a few too.
Chinese weddings always have awesome food. This was the opening dish:

Unfortunately I forgot to snap the rest, too busy eating…

A big group shot of our table…all bloggers one. Okay, well, 80% la.

Got this good shot of Jason Ong yam-seng-ing.

Got this at the right moment as they were popping the champagne
Only wish the other photographer weren’t in the way…

The one on the right is not Hannah Tan, it is none other than Joanne Kay

I like how the groomsmen wore Mexican wrestler masks.

First wedding I’ve been to where the opening song before the bride and the groom came in was the “Transformers theme” followed by a WWE Wresting Anthem….then the ‘proper’ here comes the bride song. Interesting.
Below: Wilson & Rachel walking in…

Lastly to end the post - some of Wilson & Rachel’s really hot friends!

Lastly, remember to visit www.placesandfoods.com/wedding. If you have 3D glasses, you can view the wedding pics in 3D. Yes, 3D wedding pics. All in all it was one of the most fun weddings I ever attended, and I like how they did quite a few things differently. Gives me some ideas for my own wedding. Which won’t be too soon la
Pictures from Arthur’s Day at Sunway Lagoon, Malaysia!
Parties & Events September 25th, 2010
Here are some pictures from Arthur’s Day, a celebration of the legacy of Arthur Guinness at Sunway Lagoon, Malaysia! I arrived pretty late due to the jam from KL (had another event to cover), but I did manage to catch the highlight of the show - Flo Rida! Pics below:

He actually threw his shirt to the audience. Lucky girl.

The night was capped off with fireworks!

And now on to the action in the VIP area…

The girl who brought me an nice cold one

With Jules of FlyFM

Robyna. Probably the hottest property agent you will ever meet. Leopard prints…secretary glasses…it’s too much!

Evonne Liang and her squeeze.

Her name is Blair, and she’s Korean. I seem to be meeting more Korean girls recently ever since returning from Korea. Coincedence? The Law of Attraction? I have no idea, aside from the fact it’s a good thing…

There was also an afterparty…

I like this shot of me and JJ.

Okay, it’s 6:40 AM as I type this
But this is like, the first blog post in the WHOLE OF MALAYSIA with AFTER event pics, so that made it worth it. I’ll sleep now, goodnight!

Legend Of The Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole screening with Advertlets, an an awesome coincedence!
Advertlets Bloggers, Parties & Events September 21st, 2010
Thanks to Warner Brothers, we recently had our FIRST 3D screening! It was none other than Legend Of The Guardians, The Owls Of Ga’hoole. It’s based on a set of popular children’s books, but you don’t need to know that.
Interestingly enough, I really wanted to watch it as it was directed by the same guy (Zach Snyder) who directed ‘300′ and ‘Watchmen’…this is his animation debut. Also, the soundtrack features one of my favourite artists…Owl City
Amazingly appropriate.

My date for the movie was Jessy…a deep-dimpled friend I haven’t seen in a while and a new blogger (she just started a few days ago). Here she is, making our Advertlets preview screening tickets look good

Here are some shots of the blogger crowd prior to the screening…

As is customary…a group pic of us after the screening.

On the movie itself…I think the owls were translated to screen very nicely. Left: real life owl. Right, animated owl.

To sum up the movie, it’s kind of like Lord Of The Rings meets Happy Feet with the slow motion and orange/blue/red stylings of ‘300′ (same director)…all with owls. The film’s running time is 1 hour 30 minutes, which is just about right. A tad slow in the first half, but the second half is definitely enjoyable. The Australian accents feel a bit odd at times - given that most of us are used to American/British accents, but after a while you get used to it, and it does match their characters.
I don’t know about you, but I didn’t quite like the way the Bahasa Malaysia subtitles jumped out at you - can we petition the Malaysian government NOT to make the subtitles pop out, and have them ‘flat’? The owls are cute. You could hear the cinema going “awwww” when the baby owl appeared. Your kids would want the buy the soft toy versions of the owls.
I wouldn’t quite call it a kiddy movie though - there is some good fight scenes, some violence, although there’s no blood and there is definitely some owls that die (at least 2). Don’t worry, won’t spoil it for you which owls die. It feels suitably dark in some places, and the story is deep enough for an adult to enjoy, but its definitely something you can bring your kids to enjoy.
Soundtrack wise, I would have preferred a less orchestral score, and more ‘indie/pop/guitars’ route that the trailer took (the trailer had a very good song from the band ‘30 Seconds To Mars’. Hanie was dissapointed that it didn’t appear in the film. There’s one particularly memorable part where the Owl City song “To The Sky” comes in, a foot tapping-ly happy song written specially for the film.
Humour wise, there are a few good laughs, but don’t expect a laugh a minute comedy. It’s an epic tale, with owls. I can honestly say that I got goosebumps in a few of the more dramatic moments. All in all, a good film to watch in 3D, and it’s definitely one of the better animated films to come out this year together with ‘Toy Story 3′ and ‘Despicable Me. ‘
In conclusion: I watch a lot of films (about 2-3 a week on average, and my tastes are pretty varied), so if I enjoyed it you probably will too
Overall:
Pros: Animated owls are cute and appealing. Inspirational story. Can be enjoyed by kids and adults.
Cons: Title is too long and prone to confusion (Legend Of the Owls? Legend of Ga’hoole? etc). Soundtrack could be less orchestral. Australian accents are odd.

And…
About the crazy coincedence mentioned in the title…I twitpic-ed this a couple of days back. The chances of a picture of a movie about owls getting a randomly generated URL with the word owl in it is…like…1 in 500,000? Wow. I couldn’t believe it. Either that or Twitpic is becoming self aware, kind of like how Facebook is now creepily detecting faces and suggesting you tag them.

This post is missing something before I conclude it…
Maybe some funny pictures of owls?

Oh, right. You probably want another pic of Jessy. There you go

Post ends!
Arthur’s Day Bus at Souled Out, Mont Kiara
Food, Parties & Events September 21st, 2010
I was recently invited to an event in conjunction with Arthur’s Day, the Arthur’s Day Bus at Souled Out on the 20th of September 2010, just a few hours before the Legend Of The Guardians screening with Advertlets.

The Arthur’s Day bus was there! Pics from the interior soon

A very nice stage, for a one day event I would say that the setup is very impressive.

Starters - fish & chips, meatball and chicken on skewers…with a Guinness of course!

The beautiful food bloggers behind bangsar-babe.blogspot.com and rebeccasaw.com
If you haven’t figured out already, from the multitude of print and cinema ads, Arthur’s Day is not to commemorate King Arthur, nor the animated mouse ‘Arthur’, but, about Arthur Guinness, the creator of the stout that bears his name. Guinness is probably one of the brands with the longest heritage so far, and I remember reading that Malaysia is one of the top 10 consumers of Guinness…worldwide!
Interestingly enough, I came across this book in Departure Lounge, Damansara Uptown recently about Guinness. Quality is a bit blurry as I snapped this with my iPhone.
I was waiting for my bagels to be ready, and picked up something to read from their shelf. It’s a rather good read, amazingly compelling considering its just about Guinness.

Was pretty surprised to see that Malaysia got quite a significant mention (about 5-8 pages about Guinness in Malaysia) - check out the picture from the book.

Now back to the food

Guinness actually works pretty well as a shot mixer, surprisingly enough. I’ve had an “Irish Car Bomb” before at Library, and its definitely one of my recommended drinks. This above however, is a shot that they concocted for the event…it’s a mix of Guinness, lychee and cream, and something else. I like how they look like little Guinness pints.

That’s all the pics
As I was short for time, I had to quickly down my pint of Guinness and rush off to the movie screening.
Meantime, remember that you can catch me at Arthur’s Day (or just go, irregardless of the fact that I will be awesomely there), on the 24th of September. Acts include international acts Flo Rida, Colby O’Donis, Sean Kingston as well as homegrown acts Pop Shuvit & DJ Fuzz. See you there!
Cay Kuijpers Retro Birthday Party at Desire, Asian Heritage Row
Josh Lim Photography, Parties & Events September 20th, 2010

I haven’t updated this blog in a while, haven’t I? Here’s one of the parties I’ve been to when I’m not blogging…It was the birthday of non other than Cay Kuijpers (above)! In case you’re wondering why she looks familiar, you’ve seen her here from my previous post about partying at Rootz
She’s also the 2008 Estee Lauder Model Search winner. Cay (whose name is actually Carisheila Kuijpers) comes across as pretty quirky in most of the photos here, but she can definitely do “hot” too. Pic is from a shoot she did in Bangkok.

In case you’re wondering, she is Dutch/Spanish/Filipino…quite an interesting mix. I first met her at Joannabelle Ng’s (Miss Universe Malaysia 2009) charity launch.

Left: Josiah Mizukami, Natascha, Dian Sharlin, Justin Bratton and…?
You might have seen Sam at Zouk pretty often (the guy in front with the starry singlet). You should look for him if you wanna book a table there, he’s one of their new ambassadors.

That’s Justin Bratton in the middle, who recently hosted Hennessy Artistry at Mist.

The pasty looking dude in the light pink singlet is Christian Capes…Cleo Bachelor winner a few years back, and MTV Asia VJ Search finalist.

As much as I would like to say I shot this on an actual vintage camera, it was actually shot on a Canon 1000D with post processing. You like?

Me and the birthday girl.

I really like this accidental shot. It’s interesting how the guy’s arm hair seems so…drawn, like how you would draw a beefy guy’s hand in a comic strip.

Natascha, Cay, Dian.

All the ladies.

Daniella Sya. She told me to tell you guys she’s going to be coming out in a new movie. I don’t remember what it’s called, but I will update this when I remember

Daniella and Natalie Lynn. You’ll definitely see Natalie at Zouk on most weekends…

Josiah, with his wig. I’m not sure it’s supposed to be worn there…

That’s it for now. Next up: Chantelle Chuah’s birthday party, Hennessy Artistry, my flight on a propeller plane above KL, various Advertlets events and more!
On a side note, I’ll be taking a lot more party pictures to prepare for a future venture, so meantime…if you have any good parties, let me know and I’ll come by with my camera
Vote for Jason Ong to meet Wayne Rooney in Old Trafford with Tiger FC!
Advertlets, Advertlets Bloggers August 23rd, 2010
Advertlets Blogger Jason Ong REALLY wants to meet Wayne Rooney!
In his own words:
“A brief of what I need to focus on. I’m in the running to meet the famous football player from England and Manchester United, Wayne Rooney in PERSON. I get to PARTY with him, hang out with him, have lunch with him, get his autographs, get some official merchandise, Q&A session and the best part is, I get to play some balls (I have no idea why Jason chose to word it this way) with him on the field.
I’m competing myself with 3 other regional countries in Asia. Singapore, Vietnam and that includes bloggers from Malaysia as well. Fellow friends of mine, I need some of your huge support to support me! I need 10 supporters to support me.”
And well, if you vote for him, I get to take part in a beer party as well, sponsored by Tiger! As I’m part of the support team
But okay, if you need a reason, here’s why I think you should vote for him:
Jason Ong is a really good photoblogger - over the past few years he’s been producing some of the best shots from our Advertlets events as well as many others across KL and more. He’s also a pretty decent at shooting video - so having him meet Rooney and cover it will be the next best thing to actually being there. Other than that, he’s a hardcore Manchester United fan - and won’t be asking stupid questions and embarassing us Malaysian MU fans when he’s over there. Also, lastly - this is a regional contest - wouldn’t you rather a Malaysian win than someone from Singapore, Vietnam or Indonesia?
So here’s what you can do to drop your vote:
- Visit his blog at this link: http://bit.ly/MYtigerJO
- Drop a comment (comments go towards the score!)
It’s that simple!
