Been a while since I updated this. Let’s just recap on what’s been happening recently, before I attempt to come up with a more regular schedule. I won’t even try arranging them in sequence, but let’s just say that it was between February - April 2012.

First off, as of March this year…Advertlets is now 5 years old! That’s a while! Like if you take a 5 year old kid, that’s 99CM! More than half your current height (I often use this metaphor as a point to illustrate the passing of time). On a side note, when I first started Advertlets on 9th of March 2007, I was 24 years old. Now, I am still 24 years old. Isn’t that amazing?

advertlets5years

Below: I cut my hair yeah. Like it? Also lost some weight. I’ve started on personal training…trying to up my sessions to twice a week at least but my schedule (and two bouts of falling sick) doesn’t really help. Below is me and some pretty ladies as usual at the Mercedes-Benz Stylo Fashion Grand Final 2012.

The below picture is at the Zouk @ Sepang rave with headliner Afrojack (who did not have an Afro, or was named Jack. But he played a really good set). Also, notably, it is the first time I’ve met a girl with a Japanese name that turned out to be actually…Japanese! She’s in the picture. Can you guess who?

That’s us at the launch of Sold.my - put together with Advertlets Blogger and psychologist / emcee / model / blogger extraordinaire Choo Mei Sze. Quite happy that its a first - an event we put together not just for bloggers, but the media as well.

advertlets-timeline-fb-feb2012

So well, my bestest and fattest friend Jason Ong celebrated his 22nd birthday…it was an amazing mix of bloggers and good looking people, and above all, friends. To tell the truth I really feel pressured to top it with my upcoming birthday in August.

526027_10151496379510171_796270170_23963817_790580652_n

Mandy Chan celebrated her birthday too! Honestly it always makes me happy when our bloggers hang out on their own accord, not cause they are forced to :) And, low or high traffic blogger, everyone’s mostly nice to each other, and I’ve seen quite a few genuine friendships (and relationships) develop. Say no to elitist blogger cliques!

There was the Johnnie Walker parties. Good as usual - how could it be anything otherwise? Advertlets Blogger Audreypuiyan won the grand prize, so we got to party in style, and she got to meet Jensen Button on stage too :)

On the work side, notably this month I was happy to be part of two things :

- The Cradle Coach & Grow program as a mentor/advisor with MATRADE and Cradle. Imagine meeting 10 clients in 1 whole day, finding out what they do, and advising them on how social media can help their business. It was an exhausting experience, but a fulfilling one.

- Speaking on social media at a private conference on brand building. It’s been a while since I’ve done some public speaking, good to know I’m not rusty!

Oh, and there’s one blog post that is no longer here btw. It wasn’t removed because it wasn’t true. Every word was. One word - mercy. That, and the hope that some people can actually change, once they’ve learnt there are some things they can’t get away with.

Lastly, here’s something random. When was the last time you saw something which was both racist AND adorable? And before you say anything, its okay for me to post this because I’m Chinese, and I admit, we eat anything, seriously.

Toodles, peoples! The next blog post will hopefully be here in 1-2 days. There are hundreds of you that come here each day to see old content purely through the fact that my site is well SEO-ed, but I hope to give you new content regularly, because that’s the whole point of blogging la. Isn’t it ironic that as the founder of a blogging company, my work barely leaves me time to blog?

You can encourage me with comments on this blog post, or seductive private messages to my social network accounts urging me to reveal more of my mystique.

If you haven’t seen this video yet…where’ve you been?

Some of the highlights:
1:37 – Real passengers reacting, and of course, a Bollywood song
2:31 – Good impression of visitors from China…the clothing is spot on
3:11 – And I thought they were just makciks watching the proceedings, then they start dancing!
3:49 –The stewardesses’ trolley dance
5:56 - The Argentinian visitor really makes the video! “Does that happen all the time here?”

I did a search around, and was pleasantly surprised to find a behind the scenes blog post from Denna Ahmad (Advertlets Blogger, woot!) - Apparently she’s really a stewardess with Malaysia Airlines. You can read her posts here and here.

gracedenna-01

Coordination wise, it was pretty elaborate than your usual flash mob as there were several different scenes. Judging from the behind the scenes, there were 2 weeks of rehearsals, choreography and vocal training….and even midnight rehearsals at the airport itself. The talents in the video consist of professional dancers, first timers, as well as MAS cabin crew.

gracedenna02

And if you’re curious to know the perspective from the performers angle…From Denna’s blog –

“By the time we came out for our 2nd and last performances, the arrival hall was even more packed than before.Strangers, families and friends have been surrounding the area to sing and dance along with all of us since they’ve enjoyed themselves doing it during the 1st round. We couldn’t be happier seeing all those people being supportive towards what we were doing rather than seeing us as fools who ’syok sendiri’ dancing and singing in the middle of an unknown crowd.”

gracedenna03

A picture of not all of the 200+ people in the flashmob, but close enough! As of right now the video has 824,000+ views and a 94.45% approval rating (by likes/dislikes) on Youtube, so that’s a pretty impressive feat. Congratulations to MAS and Malaysia for an international quality flashmob!

I know it looks like 3 January, but the print faded, its actually 13 January

I first heard of Foster The People before all of you did, before they were played on Fly FM. So when I found out that they were coming down, I was pretty excited! Here are some of the very ’semangat’ fans who were there that I snapped! (Scroll to the bottom of this post for video)

375974_10150574260012559_579737558_11125973_743826499_n397986_10150574321022559_579737558_11126265_860304684_n

It was a concert of an hour and a half. Set list included almost all the songs off their debut album of ‘Torches’, as well as a cover of Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So”.

390293_10150685083466959_273893046958_11879116_1513745355_n

Picture of the band shortly before they left the stage. Pic from Sony Music Malaysia's Facebook.

The crowd was pretty well behaved generally, but lead singer Mark Foster did stop the concert for a while to tell the audience to not push the people in front and to give them some space, saying that ”it’s all fun and games till somebody dies”. Yes, he really said that. The guy has stage presence - in between and during songs, he would spread his arms like a Christ figure, climbing on the speakers at the end, banging on the cymbals with his own drumstick (yes, even though he’s not the drummer).

You’re probably wondering - are they good live? Yes - drumming is top notch, keyboards were on, guitar solos sounded perfect, and Mark Foster’s distinctive semi-falsetto voice was spot on. Good bass from the sound system, though it was a bit hard to hear some of the subtler synth notes.

On a side note, I am very sure two people particularly enjoyed themselves. One of them was someone I couldn’t spot, but I could smell, who was smoking weed. Not that I know the smell of weed, someone else pointed that out to me :)  And there was the aunty next to me with her kids, who was texting her husband that she was at some ‘young people foster band’. She was dancing along happily to the music though. Crowd was a mix of hipsters (not that many though, dissapointingly, I was hoping to get some dress up ideas), parents with their children, international school kids and a few people that looked like they would be more at home at the Ella/Awie concert that was happening across town.

Here’s “Don’t Stop” (I always thought that this would have made a stronger second single than Helena Beat though):

Their cover of Weezer’s “Say It Ain’t So”

Here’s a video I shot of the epic ending they had with ‘Pumped Up Kicks’. They had a very nice intro, and later in the song, even incorporated the dance/dubstep remix of ‘Pumped Up Kicks’

(Skip to 4:22 for the song, the intro is rather long but I felt it worked very well at the venue. Also, sorry about my finger.)

All in all this was a very good concert - definitely one of the best I’ve been to ever (the other would be We Are Scientists gig in Zouk many years back). This is one of the rare occasions where I didn’t wait for free tickets, as I really wanted to catch them - I did actually purchase my tickets at RM188 each (bought them in December last year). It was great to be able to sing along to all their songs - while I do go for lots of concerts, there are few bands that I listen to really constantly (like, every month) like Foster The People.

However I feel really bad for those that did not buy the VIP tickets - the hall was too narrow and there wasn’t enough stage elevation to be able to see the band, instead they would have to settle for just a relatively small video screen. While the sound system was really good, and I like the fact that it was air conditioned, there really should have been a better choice of venue.

UPDATE! I found out the name of the song that was played solo by Mark Foster on piano/keyboard only - It’s called Ruby, and you can view it here below:

Trivia: The band was originally called “Foster And The People”, but fans kept mispronouncing it so they adopted the name “Foster The People”, also because it was the meaning of ‘taking care of the people’.

JOHNNIE WALKER® is also giving 2 Malaysian bloggers (and their plus ones) the chance to win the trip of a lifetime at the Singapore GP for three days while also attending the award winning JOHNNIE WALKER® JET BLACK race party for two nights. Winners will also be treated to full five-star hospitality and to top it all off, might just receive a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with one of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes™ drivers, Lewis Hamilton or Jenson Button. Malaysians that desire a taste of the extraordinary world of Formula 1™ should take full opportunity of this offer by logging on to www.blackcircuit.com.my/facebook from August 24th through September 16th and participate in the Facebook contest” he added.

Okay now to answer some questions…

  1. JOHNNIE WALKER® is the global partner of Formula One™ team Vodafone McLaren Mercedes™ since 2005, who was the 2009 Formula One™ SINGTEL Singapore Grand Prix night race winner and which team did he drive for?
According to Wikipedia -  The race was won by McLaren-Mercedes driver and reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton.

  1. The Johnnie Walker® JET BLACK race party is the most talked about party of the Singapore Night Race, featuring a stellar line up of the world’s best DJ’s, stunning interactive party experiences, and stylish JOHNNIE WALKER® cocktails. Tell us in 50 words or less why we should send you and a friend an exclusive invitation to the party and include 3 or more hi quality pictures of your version of a perfect JOHNNIE WALKER® race party to win yourself 2 passes each to both exclusive events.

I should be sent to the party because…I’m a loyal Johnnie Walker drinker. And…so far I’ve been to all the Johnnie Walker parties so far…which makes you think:
Is it a happening Johnnie Walker party because Josh Lim is there, or is Josh Lim there because its a happening Johnnie Walker party?
(Just bring me there, and you’ll never need to find out! :)

My perfect Johnnie Walker race party has…

Bloggers+Friends!

Because there’s something particularly noteworthy about being able to party it up, have drinks AND still be able to photograph and write about it later.
And over the years, I’ve really grown to love the overlap between bloggers + friends that I have. It’s special how I can work AND party with people that are helping me fuel my dreams with Advertlets, and to know that they are having fun and gaining something along the way too.

(Also, whenever I’m out at any party, someone inevitably asks me  ’Where are your bloggers?’, regardless of which party I go to, so its kind of expected that they are there…)

219660_10150216732137474_786217473_8472053_2654858_o

Ladies!

They say that without women, all the money in the world would have no meaning. I agree.

And of course,
Johnnie Walker!

Whether on the rocks, or mixed with green tea (my personal favourite), or any of the special cocktails that you’ll find at Johnnie Walker events…its the smooth taste that keeps you walking and partying all night. The third anniversary of Advertlets was celebrated with the opening of an ultra premium Johnnie Walker blue label btw :)

(Presented here by the lovely Daphne Iking, back at the Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Lounge party in 2010)

Lastly, I’m writing this cause I love Johnnie Walker and all the party experiences they’ve given me before - in fact I don’t even need to write this as Advertlets is organizing the contest and I’ll be going to the party anyway, but I decided to write it cause I love Johnnie :) Woot!

I was recently invited to go for a media trip to Penang thanks to Hennessy Malaysia, with other bloggers. Mostly Advertlets Bloggers (10/15), I’m happy to add :) Anyway, check this out - I put together a video of our experiences there! The full post & pictures will be up very soon, meantime enjoy a 2:30 video distilled from over an hour of footage. Hope you like it, and stay tuned for my upcoming full posts on the party, the night out in Penang after that, and Hennessy Artistry 2011 in KL!

(PS: Reduce the video resolution from 720P to 360P or 480P if the video is loading slowly. But view in HD for the full effect!)

These past few weeks have involved quite a bit of travel. Penang for Hennessy Artistry…and now Cherating in Kuantan with Holiday Villa last Sunday! We were there as they wanted some bloggers to join them for their 21st Annual Sandsculpting Competition.

230490_10150613167705171_796270170_18731821_104939_n

And so, I packed up my t-shirts and shorts, ready to leave for Cherating with 7 other bloggers. We stayed at the beautiful Holiday Villa Resorts and Spa Cherating where we where our tummies were pampered with buffets, all 3 meals of the day.

Advertlets had 2 teams and I was in team 1 with Feeqsays.net (Firdaus) and the Bolehland.net boys, Dan Khoo and Wai Kit. Here’s our team flag, with a drawing by the Bolehland boys!

The theme for this year’s competition is “Animal World” and we were cracking our heads open trying to figure out what to sculpt, seeing the fact that it was more than 10 years ago since I last build a sandcastle. We finally decided on doing a lobster for the following reasons:

- Lobsters have a good segmented body shape, easy to translate to sand
- Everyone is going to do turtles or snakes. Predictably. (Which was correct - there ended up more than 6 teams doing turtles out of 30 teams)

Though we came unprepared (other participants were all geared up with sandsculpting gears; buckets, shovel, water sprays and whatever nots) I am actually very proud to announce that our lobster is alive! In hindsight, we probably shouldn’t have made it so big. Couldn’t put in as much detail as we wanted to. I’m happy to note that the sand is very nice and fine, and the beach is very well maintained. Reminded me of the time I went to Boryeong beach in Korea.

227606_10150613165550171_796270170_18731808_5127501_n

Here are the other creative sculptures by other participants. This was Team Advertlets 2’s massive tarantula:

A lion:

221952_10150182822989438_29681184437_6750809_6221452_n

I definitely had fun taking a short break away from the heavy workload and going to the beach for a change. Might just take part next year for the sandsculpting competition as well! (Next time I’ll come prepared and playing to win).

The video you’ve all been waiting for! Justin Bieber pulls up one VERY LUCKY Malaysian girl on stage to serenade her with “One Less Lonely Girl!”. This is from the recent Justin Bieber concert on the 21st of April, sponsored by Tune Talk which was held at Stadium Merdeka.

This was last year’s Black Circuit Lounge! Check out the video below - In there you’ll see me (just for a split second), local bloggers, as well as celebs!

There’s another video you should check out - pretty hilarious actually! You know the drink…but do you know who Johnnie Walker was?

Since 2009, I have not missed the Black Circuit series of parties :)

The Black Circuit Lounge Party this year will be on the 9th April 2011,

Johnnie Walker, the World’s number one Scotch whisky and global partner for highly successful Formula One team McLaren Mercedes did an after race party experience which is held in Kuala Lumpur last year. The Black Circuit Lounge. The reason Johnnie Walker has partnered with VMM because they both share the values of innovation, winning and leadership.

On this coming April 9th, this Ultimate V-VIP Race Party will be delivered in Black. This luxury race party will feature Superstar-mixer DJ Enferno from the East Coast and DJ Sophia Lin will show Kuala Lumpur why she has captivated the Hollywood clubbing scene. Definitive Hip Hop DJs in Asia, Hong Kong’s DVDJ I-Tek and Malaysia’s very own sweetheart DJ Faith will also be spinning for the A-listers at the Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Lounge.

Very recently, I went down to Singapore for the Johnnie Walker Jet Black party.

Singapore was great - I got to see lots of familiar faces from KL, as well as many new ones from Singapore! I went down with Jason, Rebecca & Melanie from Advertlets, and met up with some Singaporean bloggers there :) I’ll be covering this event in full in a later post.

Time to party :)

This is part of a blogging competition btw. The TWO best blog post will receive a Limited Edition bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label and 8GB Limited Edition Chrome USB Drive by Johnnie Walker.

I remember the first time I had Johnnie Walker Blue Label (costs about 3-4 times as much as Black Label). It was at Digital Wednesday, and my partner bought one to celebrate Advertlets’ 3rd Anniversary. It was a very good bottle, and was easily finished throughout the night :)

To Johnnie!

Long time readers of my blog would note that I’ve blogged about the Johnnie Walker Black Circuit party last year.

johnnie-walker-girls-at-the-black-circuit-lounge-august-2010-lo-res

And, my first time ever visiting an F1 race  in 2009was sponsored by non other than Johnnie Walker. It was a great first time experience, and I went for F1 the following year too.

Which were excellent experiences.

But now, there is a bigger challenge, and a bigger “Josh Lim Adventure” to pursue. Note that these two events were in Malaysia. It’s time to take it international.

You, my blog reader, get to decide if I should be eligible to be one of the 2 bloggers to go for the Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Lounge party in SINGAPORE on the 12th of March 2011! And not only that - I get to go there and come back in style!

  • - The two best judged blog posts by the Johnnie Walker Malaysia team will win an all-expense paid trip for 3D2N stay in Singapore from 11th – 13th March 2011 with a friend and experience a Johnnie Walker after-race party in Singapore cosmopolitan style with the “Jet Black” mega event (March 12th) + be hosted at Singapore’s hottest club - Filter Members’ Club. (March 11th)
  • - Flight to and from Singapore (2 pax)
  • - 3D2N hotel stay in downtown Singapore inclusive of all meals (2 pax)
  • - Limo transfers in Singapore (2 pax)
  • - A bottle of Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve with winner’s name personally engraved
  • - A Limited Edition Johnnie Walker Racing Jacket

If you can do so, I’ll be as happy as Lewis Hamilton winning, like shown below.

lewis-hamilton-mclaren-belgium-grand-prix_1363596

Here’s a video of what to expect from the parties - it’s footage of last year’s party, with an introduction by Lewis Hamilton!

If you read this blog, you’re very likely know Johnnie Walker (maybe even every weekend). And you know the Black Circuit Lounge parties. But just in case you don’t…

Johnnie Walker, the World’s number one Scotch whisky (and Josh Lim’s 99.9% of the time most drank whisky) and global partner for highly successful Formula One team McLaren Mercedes (winners hang out with other winners!), once again will be bringing Malaysians the ultimate VVIP after-race party experience to Kuala Lumpur, the Black Circuit Lounge. This highly anticipated event is an inside-look at the glamorous lifestyle of global racing that Johnnie Walker has privileged access to.

I’m personally very thankful to the Johnnie Walker brand for giving me many opportunities to attend events, as well as being a part of my nights out, year after year:

From 2008 (notice the short hair, different specs & slimmer body)

From 2009:

2657_72179033124_673693124_2286901_4263063_n

Year 2010 (please disregard the girly hair I have)

For me to win, I have to answer this question:

What amazes you most about the lifestyle of an F1 driver and why do you deserve to experience a part of it with Johnnie Walker?

So since this is a 2 part question:

What amazes me the most about the lifestyle of an F1 Driver?

For me, the most amazing part of the lifestyle of an F1 Driver is the fact that they can inspire people from near and far, simply by doing well at what they are good at - driving and consequently, winning. Even though most of these people would have never met their favourite racer, or come from the same country, the skill demonstrated is enough to make them root for him.

And as such, this commitment to a lifestyle, brings many benefits - lovely WAGS (Wives And Girlfriends), financial benefits, fame and people from all around the world cheering your name and sharing your joy in victories.

Most people will not know the commitment needed to be an F1 driver…you have to undergo gruelling practice, not to mention the physical challenges - it is said that F1 drivers actually lose weight in the race cockpit because of the G forces and physical energy involved.

Why does Josh Lim deserve to experience a part of it with Johnnie Walker?

  1. Because I gotta “Keep Walking” and do what I do in Advertlets (I bring in the ads, yo!) to keep bloggers blog’s monetized…I have missed several good parties including Zoukout in Singapore (even though we had free tickets from Tourism Singapore), and well…my colleagues Jason got to go for Hennessy Artistry in Shanghai and Rebecca got to go to Australia for a trip…I’ve mostly been stuck here in Malaysia due to work. So if you think that Advertlets has been performing well for your blog, vote for me to win, because I think I deserve a break! :)
  2. I’ll take nice photos. And post them up here. Promise!
  3. I haven’t really partied in Singapore before. Sure, I’ve been there, sure I’ve had drinks, but I have never had an epic party in Singapore yet. I’ve partied in Korea but not Singapore, which is very weird considering how close Singapore is.
  4. I am a pretty responsible drinker. Most people don’t know this, or might have problem believing this, but I don’t drink as much as people believe I do (getting photographed at lots of parties does not help)
  • Here are some tips for you: Don’t mix liquor, beer & wine. Different types of alcohol affect you differently, hence especially if you try something you haven’t before, you could be ill-prepared to handle it.  You could stick to drinking Johnnie Walker all night :)-
  • After drinking, make sure you are adequately hydrated to prevent a hangover the next day. An energy drink (Revive, 100 Plus or Red Bull) will help. Or, 1.5 litres of water. I’ve only had 2 hangovers in 12 years, and that’s because I’ve followed this rule.
  • Have a friend drive you home if you are too drunk to drive, or take a cab. There are also other services available locally that will drive YOUR car back to your house, saving you the trouble of collecting your car the next day.

The Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Lounge series of parties have an outstanding amount of celebrities, here’s some from last year. I’m looking forward to taking pictures of Singaporean and international celebrities at the Johnnie Walker Black Circuit Lounge party there :)

Lastly, never drink and drive. Especially not WHILE driving. Unless it’s water, the before-race drink of champions like Jenson Button. You can only drink after you win :)

Not only did I skip church last Sunday, I also had a very sinful breakfast. Me, Melanie & Jason from Advertlets went down to preview Tom Dick & Harry’s new breakfast menu. Tom Dick & Harry’s is in TTDI, same row as Sid’s, Boathouse & 42 East. When the first dish arrived we were a bit dissapointed…not because of the food itself, but because it was just one dish. We brought this up…and they told us “Trust me, you’ll want to sample everything so we’re going to bring it out dish by dish. Later, you can order again if you want more of a particular dish”.

They bill themselves as Tom Dick & Harry’s pub + grub, and the grub part definitely delivered. It is important to note that I tried nearly everything here. It was a LOT, and at the end of the day we were really stuffed. It is also the first time I’ve had a Hoegaarden & Savannah Cider in the morning.

Warning, high resolution food pictures taken by yours truly ahead. You’re going to be hungry looking at them.

Everything here is roughly RM16-RM25, except for the Pork Knuckle. You’ll know why when you see it later.

Remember, they serve this until 2PM. So even if you wake up late, you can get breakfast. And if you’re there slightly later at 2, they’ll probably serve it to you anyway, especially if you were drinking there the night before, haha.

First off, The Big Breakfast. A staple American breakfast.

I didn’t try this below though, the Spinach Wrap. If you’re a vegetarian (it’s a vegetarian dish), you might like it, but I doubt most people want spinach in the morning. It’s with cheddar & cream cheese inside though, so it’s probably nice. Wait, cheese inside makes it non vegetarian. Or is it?

I forget what this was called, but it was nice.

Bring on the pancakes…

The Banana Pancakes are served with caramelized banana and vanilla ice cream.

Steak & Eggs is tender grain fed Ribeye steak served with sunny side up, golden hash browns, saute mushrooms and fresh grilled tomatoes, with beefy brown gravy on the side.

img_8758

And the big kahuna…the Pork Knuckle dish. To give you a demonstration of how large this is exactly, I present Janis with the dish:

img_8805

This is definitely meant to be shared. No way you can finish this on your own. Not even Jason Ong & Jason Chan combined can finish this, hahah!

img_8799

Later on Jonathan Cheah from Albert Wines & Spirits dropped by…

img_8783

With his very cute kid :) Makes me want to have kids, no just kidding not so soon.

img_8788

Albert Wine & Spirits is the company that distributes SKYY Vodka. There was a good SKYY Vodka / Sex In The City 2 Party I attended sometime back.

And…the cornflakes. Honestly I must say that EVERYTHING I tried on the other dishes was nice, except the cornflakes which I’m surprised were a big “masuk angin”. Anyway, it’s an easily rectifiable problem la.

img_8776

The Eggs Benedicks (No, it’s not a mispelling, it’s called that, as the pub is called Tom Dick & Harry’s).

img_8749

This is insane, below. It is what it sounds like. Mars & Snickers chocolate bars dipped in flour, then fried. I enjoyed the Snickers one, but the Mars one tasted a bit odd. Then again, I don’t like Mars bars to begin with. Snickers however is a different story. On some days, all I have for breakfast+lunch is a Snickers bar and a Red Bull. Yes, I am aware that is a terrible dietary habit.

img_88202

I don’t think I got to try the Corned Beef Fritattas, as it was walloped by other people at the table. So I have to assume it’s good.

img_8724

I forgot what this was called, but it was crispy.

img_8826

The “Pork fries is not as scary as it sounds. It’s not lard, it’s actually more like luncheon meat. Big points for presentation.

img_8830

Anyway, here’s some of the people that were there…

On the left (duh) is Melanie Hwa. She’s recently joined the Advertlets team, and so far has been doing a good job despite the fact that her hair is covering half of her face most of the time. At least she doesn’t knock into things. If you see her in real life, make sure to call her Melanie Hwa with emphasis on the Hwa, like HWAAAHH!

img_8792

Jason (fattie with camera) you should know la. Janis (with sunglasses on head) is a writer with the Malay Mail.

img_8725

Aly, formerly from Red FM and Lexie Rodriguez, Radio Host for Red FM’s Late Night Love Songs. Aly writes a food blog here and was previously featured on this blog as an auditioneer for the E News Asia auditions.

img_8718

Rebecca was there for a while before she had to leave for another food review. Blogger Cheng Yi from Fat Boy Bakes was there too.

img_8705

Aly also got to try the Judgement Call, a potent cocktail that is actually served like this. As you might guess, it does not look easy to go down, but Aly did a good job finishing it and it seemed to have little effect on her.

img_8840

And that’s it! More food posts soon :)

Last Saturday, some of us woke up early and some not so early for a futsal session in Subang with the hosts of Castrol Football Crazy! Put together by ESPN/Castrol/Advertlets, it was a great time for 20 bloggers and some staff. That’s us bloggers below!

dsc_2783

The warmup session before the match. It started with some normal warmup moves then got weird towards the end, with host JD leading us to gyrate sexily and more. Haha.

dsc_2336

Team A

dsc_2355

Team B (which I was in)

dsc_2352

And no picture of Team C, lol. Jason say they too lansi to take picture. Haha.

One of the highlights of the match was a ball hitting Dan Khoo’s balls. It hurt a while, but we believe he’s okay, and that this will have no long term impact on his fertility.

dsc_2562

They say when a man gets hit in the balls, the impact is so hard that other men around it can feel it too.

dsc_2569

Here are some of the sexy bloggers that were there too…

cfc2011-22

Other injuries that day included Michelle (middle) being hit in the face by a ball kicked by Bryan. He was red carded, lol.

Referees Adam C & JD gave out plenty of unnecessary red and yellow cards, all as part of the show (It’s Castrol Football Crazy after all). Some of the more hilarious reasons included:

Azrin (Group B) : Azrin got a yellow card for calling Adam C a “referee kayu” . During the half time.

Ewin (Group A) : Ewin got a RED card for not scoring a simple goal.

Bryan (Group C) : Bryan got a RED card for kicking the ball at Michelle’s face.

Jason (Group A) : Jason saved the ball from an attempt from group B and they got awarded a penalty. What? And so many more cards given without any fouls.

And the lovely Castrol girls. I found out later on, that I already have one of them on Facebook. :)

dsc_27811

There was a tweet wall too…over 130 tweets in those few hours! :)

And here’s some celebrity gossip about the hosts of Castrol Football Crazy.

castrol-football-crazy-hosts-adam-and-jd

First off…

dsc01062

JD’s real name is Jason Donovan, like the 80’s singer. Kidding.

His real name is Jason Desmond CHIN. Yes, he is part Chinese. JD is best known as part of “JD and Dilly” on Red FM. He is currently single, and looking. You can look him up on Facebook.

dsc_25821

Adam C’s full name is Adam Johan Carruthers is also part Chinese, part Malay, part English and part monkey. Hahah. I used to stay be Adam’s housemate - so let me tell you this juicy piece of gossip - he drinks a lot…of ginger ale. Haha.

Below, is JD drawing on himself.

dsc_2833

Later on, there was other games: football juggling, and a shoot out challenge. Below is Vernon shortly after he lost control of the ball:

dsc_27162

That’s me below, with Adam defending. Do  you think the ball reached? Tune in to find out! (Showtimes at the end of the post)

dsc_2751

You can see us on air on…Castrol Football Crazy on February 3rd and 10th to watch all the ball-kicking fun we had with Adam C and JD!

Castrol Football Crazy airs every Thursday at 8pm only on ESPN, Channel 812. Also, go and Like the official Castrol Football Crazy Facebook page!

This was our first project with Castrol, and we at Advertlets look forward to collaborating on more crazy events soon. Lastly, I leave you with a picture of Elvina Chua, part of the Advertlets Team and one of our new bloggers :) Elvina would like to remind you: “Remember to fill up with Castrol the next time you service your car!”

The Kuala Lumpur party boy has returned. After an absence from blogging for about a month…AYAM BEG!! (read it out loud).

It is important to note that EVERYTHING in this blog post here happened within the same day. And was written, photographed, edited and uploaded on the same day too. This is my first post of 2011, and I resolve to be more consistent with my blog updates in future, have many pretty pictures for you, exercise regularly, all in addition to being more of an Epic Lim.

First off earlier in the day, met Bridgette Liberty Yu of pillowtalkpromises at Bangsar Shopping Centre for a discussion. Her friend, JT, a Youtube travel vlogger was there too.

img_7387

Also managed to meet up with a client at the same venue to collect the below gift. Thanks to Holiday Villa for the first CNY gift of the year! Do fan the Holiday Villa page and consider Holiday Villa Group Of Hotels & Resorts for all your accomodation needs :)

img_7740

After that - it was time to head over for the Miss Universe Malaysia 2011 Revelation Press Conference, where Malaysia’s selected representative for 2011 would be announced.

img_7435

I don’t usually get to shoot 3 beauty queens on the same day, but today was an exception. Btw, Advertlets was the online partner for Miss Universe Malaysia 2010, and will continue this year too :)

untitled-1

The thing with Deborah Priya Henry is that she’s incredible to shoot. It is SO HARD to get a bad shot of her. Honestly I can see why the public was so supportive and the judges that she should be the one to represent Malaysia today.

Met my friend Janis there too at the press conference. Love her tattoo. Don’t stare too long though, she’ll kill you.

img_7436

Later in the night, there was the unveiling party :) I realize I look rather pretty in this photo below. Bloggers in the picture are Naomi (in the background, white outfit), of naomitham.blogspot.com, and Magdeline Wang (black dress, right hand side) of mag-a-licious.blogspot.com

img_7488

Serena C was the host for the night.

img_7464

Lavinne & Fay Hokulani. I like how her name sounds like a drink. Like “OMG, I had so many Fay Hokulanis last night!’

img_7543

‘mag-a-licious’ Magdeline Wang with Deborah Priya Henry. Notice they are the same height. I will make a prediction - Magdeline Wang will qualify as a finalist, if not win Miss Universe Malaysia 2012 :) History would have taught you that hot girls usually appear on this blog before winning titles. After all, Yvonne Sim was on this blog too, 1 year before she was FHM Girl Next Door 2010.

img_7605

A woman loudly exclaimed “I want to take a picture with Miss Universe Malaysia!”

She had a very strong resemblance, and I asked her “Aren’t you like, her sister?”. And she said, “Yes!”.

img_7612

They really look similiar. If Deborah Priya Henry doesn’t win this year, I suggest we send her clone sister in the next few years.

And below. Please forgive the stupid chinaman grin I have. The lady with the nice hair and incredibly sharp nose is Patricia Sue Lin Knudsen, one of the potential candidates for this year’s Miss Universe Malaysia 2011 as well. Personally I would have liked her to have been selected. She looks like an exact mix of a Asian and European features. She’s from Denmark btw.

img_7602

Looking at Patricia from different angles gives you a different impression of her ethnicity. Evolution dictates that the further away samples from the gene pool, the better the results. That’s why Pan-Asians are so hot, and people who marry their cousins produce ugly children. This only reinforces my decision to one day marry a Brazillian supermodel, or perhaps, hire one to spawn my future child.

Anyway, back to the topic - the major pageants (World, Universe) are all about women who are tall. As the average height for contestants from other countries is 5′10. Which is unfortunate. I personally would like there to be a pageant for women below 5′5. There used to be a Miss Malaysia Petite pageant, but it was discontinued. Serious. I think it’s a great idea. Last year’s Miss Universe Malaysia 2010 2nd runner up, Vera Hui was excellent - great features, build and speaking skills, but given that she was 5′4, 2nd runner up was the furthest she could go.

Trivia: Did you know? The last Miss Malaysia Petite was Hannah Tan. The pageant was discontinued after that.

Onward….

Have you heard of “Yew Han Baker?” No, it’s not a bakery run by a Chinese man :) It’s the guy on the right, below. Nice chap that I’ll hopefully be shooting again soon, together with the rest of his pop-rock band.

img_7601

Dynas Mokhtar was there too.

img_7617

Deborah Priya Henry OMG so pretty.

img_7564

Pat, below, runs things at this club. Let this be an example to you that you don’t need to have typical Chinese girl long hair to look good. She looks great with this short crop, which she informed me she had just done recently.

img_7500

Magdeline Wang is gonna be famous someday :)

img_7472

Meanwhile, Nadine Ann Thomas, Miss Universe Malaysia 2010…was today revealed as an aspiring hip hop DJ currently under the Kartel label of Joe Flizzow.

Fo shizzle ya’ll.

img_7642

Below is Hafiz of CuteCarry.com, fashion blogger and Kee Hua Chee, celebrity journalist were there at the party too. Here they are in their fabulous outfits.

img_7644

Okay. After that it was onward to the next party at The Hill…which is…wait for it…wait for it…ON A HILL!

img_7646

I was there for the Moet Hennessy Diageo Media Appreciation Night. MHD is a conglomerate that may sound familiar to you. That’s because they are the parent brand for Hennessy, Belvedere, Johnnie Walker, Bailey’s, Glenmorangie, Smirnoff, Moet & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot & more!

img_1673

Mag followed along for the second party of the night :)

img_1720

Nadia Heng (Miss World Malaysia 2010), her friend Cassandra, & Roen, who is one of the owners of The Hill.

img_7716

Big time taiko Jason Ong of mynjayz.com was there too. Damn stylish right his samfu. He must have really good taste, or the person that picked the outfit for him has.

img_7653

Each guest was given chips to use for the card games in a “casino” with “baccarat” and “blackjack”. Those with the most chips at the end of the night won prizes.

img_1696

There was also a very entertaining “beer pong” game, played with liqour of course.

img_7651

I don’t know who this girl is, but she is very photogenic.

img_7664

Helenness Chong is looking stylish with her Takashi Murakami Louis Vuitton bag.

img_7702

Erica Ting does her ‘ting’.

img_7674

And then there’s this random person below la.

img_1724

Last stop for the night was Devi’s Corner for some Maggi and teh ais :)

img_7725

Lastly, here’s yet another picture of Deborah Priya Henry, our new Miss Universe Malaysia 2011!
