I was recently invited to an event in conjunction with Arthur’s Day, the Arthur’s Day Bus at Souled Out on the 20th of September 2010, just a few hours before the Legend Of The Guardians screening with Advertlets.

The Arthur’s Day bus was there! Pics from the interior soon :)

A very nice stage, for a one day event I would say that the setup is very impressive.

Starters - fish & chips, meatball and chicken on skewers…with a Guinness of course!

If you haven’t figured out already, from the multitude of print and cinema ads, Arthur’s Day is not to commemorate King Arthur, nor the animated mouse ‘Arthur’, but, about Arthur Guinness, the creator of the stout that bears his name.  Guinness is probably one of the brands with the longest heritage so far, and I remember reading that Malaysia is one of the top 10 consumers of Guinness…worldwide!

Interestingly enough, I came across this book in Departure Lounge, Damansara Uptown recently about Guinness. Quality is a bit blurry as I snapped this with my iPhone.

I was waiting for my bagels to be ready, and picked up something to read from their shelf. It’s a rather good read, amazingly compelling considering its just about Guinness.

Was pretty surprised to see that Malaysia got quite a significant mention (about 5-8 pages about Guinness in Malaysia) - check out the picture from the book.

Now back to the food :)

Guinness actually works pretty well as a shot mixer, surprisingly enough. I’ve had an “Irish Car Bomb” before at Library, and its definitely one of my recommended drinks. This above however, is a shot that they concocted for the event…it’s a mix of Guinness, lychee and cream, and something else. I like how they look like little Guinness pints.

That’s all the pics :) As I was short for time, I had to quickly down my pint of Guinness and rush off to the movie screening.

Meantime, remember that you can catch me at Arthur’s Day (or just go, irregardless of the fact that I will be awesomely there), on the 24th of September. Acts include international acts Flo Rida, Colby O’Donis, Sean Kingston as well as homegrown acts Pop Shuvit & DJ Fuzz. See you there!

Yes that’s me.

So the other day, while at a new restaurant with Rebecca Saw, a food blogger, I remarked “You know what? I think I should start food blogging”.

Rebecca Saw then choked on her drink.

And I was like “Dear, I know you’re a damn popular food blogger, but doesn’t mean I can’t try okay”.

I think the emoticon that best describes me is (-_-)

Anyway she eventually relented, and the following pictures in this post were taken with her camera. Just kidding, Rebecca’s cool. In fact, the first time we met was a foodie gathering more than a year ago. Since then she’s been a source of good food, and I’ve long since forgiven her for inviting me to try the terrible, terrible chicken rice in a certain outlet in Damansara Utama.

Anyway, the scene of the above conversation was none other than The Pink Sage. Newly opened about 3 days ago in Solaris Dutamas, The Pink Sage was formerly in the rather obscure area of Capital Square. I think it’s a good move for them.

Don’t let the “Solaris” part fool you. This isn’t in the usual Solaris Mont Kiara, but in Solaris Dutamas, which is further down the road (not walking distance).

I’m telling you this so you don’t make the same mistake I did. Park in Solaris, then walk around trying to find the place only to find out that it’s not in Solaris.

Anyway, Solaris Dutamas is rather new, but its vincinity to the hip areas of Solaris and Plaza Mont Kiara should ensure that it gets populated pretty soon. Right now, Solaris Dutamas isn’t too crowded (in fact, rather empty), but the upside of that is of course, it’s easy to find parking.

Anyway, on to surface impressions.

Deco is notable. Probably best described as modern, with old time kitsch thrown in. Tasteful use of wood textures, and a refreshingly high ceiling. Comfy, presumably custom made leather seats, presumably expensive.

I would love to have this in my house. Damn retro cool wei!

Not entirely related. But my new iPhone case matches well with the classy wood texture of the tables.

Nice seats. Comfortable too.

The operations director of The Pink Sage, who is also an avid tweeter (@thepinksage) is a slim, pretty, presumably Malay lady named Noreen. If you check out The Pink Sage tell her your discovered it through this blog,  Josh.my. You can also tell her that I’ll like to ask her out sometime.

Me and Rebecca were one of the three groups dining there at the time. The other one was a whole family of 7 and a group of 3 friends.

Happy cute bottles!

Happy cute bottles! And water is freeeee!

The water at The Pink Sage is free, as water should be. (Context: My family recently paid RM15 for 3 bottles of water at Hilton PJ, wtf).  The classy glass bottles also have cute messages scrawled on them.

And speaking of drinks, one of the things you should definitely try is the Strawberry Malt. It was very good - a very natural tasting blend of strawberries and milk, with bits of strawberry left in it.

You know how fake strawberry usually tastes like? The type in cheap Neapolitan ice cream? Well, the one there didn’t taste like that at all!

It was damn awesome. You drink the Strawberry Malt, and small bits of strawberry will slip into your mouth. It seems to have been blended at the right consistency. This one you definitely must try.

Left: Strawberry Malt: Good! / Right: Passionfruit Something whatever = Not Good

Tabasco Garlic Pepper Edition. I'm still undecided.

The drink you must not try, unless you like drinks that leave weird aftertastes is the Passionfruit Kiwi Mango Smoothie (RM12.50). It’s an exotic combination, but it tasted too much like starfruit for my liking. (I hate starfruit). And it left an aftertaste that took a while to come off. To its credit it tastes healthy. If you are one of those people that like to drink wheatgrass and chlorophyll, funny tasting things that are good for you, maybe you should give it a try. Then again, I do like wheatgrass and chrlorophyll but I stil didn’t like the Passionfruit Kiwi Mango. Neither did Rebecca, we left the drink unfinished.

They have a special Tabasco sauce here. It’s interesting, but I probably would like to try it a couple of times more before I come to a conclusion. Overall its stronger than the usual Tabasco.

Service is good. I wouldn’t say it’s just Rebecca knows the operations director there, but the rest of the staff that attended to us were quite quick and efficient.

Music played there is reggae and light hip hop. Good choices of song selections, although I’m not usually a fan of the genre.

If you are a reader of josh.my, there is a very high chance you drink alcohol. And yes, there is beer here. Tiger, Corona’s, Beck’s, Heineken and Leffe. I didn’t drink that night, but I probably will come back and try the Leffe. Mainly because I’ve never tried Leffe or heard of it before. Btw you can also bring your own wine (no corkage implied) until they have their own winelist. They actually suggest you to do that on the menu.

Anyway, on to the food: I went for the Stacked Breakfast Set (RM17.50) with lamb sausage. I’m not a fan of lamb as a sausage (though I do like lamb with mint sauce or Middle Eastern style), but I ordered it to be less “boring” because I’m usually either a chicken or pork guy.

Perhaps this is not the best angle to photograph a sausage. The replacement chicken sausage was thick, juicy and delicious!

Didn’t quite like it (the lamb sausage), but Rebecca informed me it was usually better (she’s been before when the outlet was at Cap Square). It was good that the staff were accomodating, and agreed to replace it with chicken sausage. The chicken sausage was excellent.

As for the rest of the dish, the eggs (ordered scrambled), streaky beef brisket, mushrooms and baked beans were done very well. Not too sure about the bread though.

Personally I think the normal white bread (or something more crisp instead of chewy) goes better with this kind of dish. But all in all, a good item for breakfast.

Rebecca ordered the (menu item name) which came with nachos and avocado. This was good, and was as tasty as it looks here.

pink-sage-49

Overall? Give The Pink Sage a try. They’re an honest outlet with reasonable prices that would benefit from a larger audience. Prices are reasonable, and you can have a good meal, a drink and a soup for RM30-50 per person. It’s accessible enough to bring your family with the menu selection they have, and classy enough to bring your mistress too. Not at the same time lah though.

Anyway, I’ll definitely be back to The Pink Sage to review the rest of the items. And try the Chocolate Malt too.

Disclaimer: Not a paid review, and food was paid for like a normal customer would pay. Thanks to Rebecca who bought me dinner (see, I’m a supporter of equal rights for women). No la actually, it was a treat for me helping her fix up her blog.

So what did you think of my first food review? Comments please :)
