Glenmorangie Single Malt Whisky Tasting with FHM & Their Girls Next Door
Parties & Events June 6th, 2010
So recently I went for a Glenmorangie tasting session, courtesy of FHM:

The venue of the tasting was Zouk Cafe & Bar. Food was served prior to the tasting, which is good - don’t drink on an empty stomach.
The cafe had some very nice light & visual effects. Panels on the walls changed patterns throughout the night.
By the way, yes, the cafe is an official extension of the Zouk Club brand.
(You do know that the Zouk Spa and Zouk Hair Salon are totally not related to Zouk Club right?)

Btw all pictures taken by me. Unless I’m in it. In which case, I didn’t take it myself. I’m also trying something new with the captions, let me know your feedback.

Preview of what you’ll find after the jump -
Tim Chew (who invited me for the event) did a short briefing before the event started. Celebrity photographer Andy Kho was there to cover the event as well.

Thumbnail from Tim Chew's Multiply page.
Let me tell you more about Tim. Some might call him a true Malaysian hero. Tim has sort of what you might call a dream job - he has to scout for beautiful women to be featured in FHM.
Apparently before he was with FHM, he was doing something boring, I think he was like, an accountant or something.
(Apologies to readers who are accountants. But please read on).
Then some people from FHM came across his Multiply profile and were like, ‘holy shit, how does this guy know so many beautiful women?’
And presumably, also ‘how does he get them to kiss each other??’
They then asked him over for an interview.
He got the job based on his credentials of knowing lots of beautiful women.
Inspirational, isnt it?
Anyway, back to the story:
Tim told me not to bother bringing a date, because there were going to be lots of pretty girls there. He was right.

The brand custodian for Glenmorangie giving a talk on what single malt whisky is, and what makes it special:

We got to try four variants of Glenmorangie.

I learnt a few interesting things:
- There is a difference between single malt and blended whisky. For example, Glenmorangie is a single malt whiskey, and Johnnie Walker is a blended whisky.
- The casket that the whisky is aged in makes quite a difference in how the whisky turns out eventually.
- You can appreciate whisky the same way as wine - take a scent, take it slow, let it roll across your palate a while, etc.
- If you want to smell your whisky, don’t ’sniff’ like a dog, just breathe normally to get a better scent.

- Mixing whisky with water actually makes the scent even more pleasant.
- The representatives mentioned that there really isn’t a ‘wrong way’ to drink whisky, that ultimately it is the customers decision.
- Although, I would say that mixing your expensive, vintage whisky with Coca-Cola just seems very wrong. (Thankfully no one did).
- I didn’t get to try it with green tea though I wish I did. (Btw green tea is an excellent mixer for whisky, and this seems to be very much an Asian thing. Unless you have issues with caffeine.)
You could taste the ‘expensiveness’ in all, but the best tasting was definitely the Nectar D’Or, which was also the most expensive, obviously. It had honey hints and it was the smoothest.
Now, on to the people I met there:
First off, Lavinne, who still remains the only Lavinne I know:

Wendy, who I have had the pleasure of meeting in the daytime before, for work-related stuff.
(I have some friends that I never see in the daytime. Those who club often will understand what I mean).

Cornetto Love Perhaps contestant and eternal bachelor Raj Ariarajah was there:

As well as these good looking guys! (I forgot the name of the guy on the right, but I find it very interesting how he looks like an anime drawing. (in case he reads this - in a good way, really!

And of course, reps from Riche Monde:

Below: She introduced herself as Lien.
I was like…is that your surname? She said no. I later found out that she was Vietnamese, currently studying in Malaysia. Haven’t met many in Malaysia so far!

Lucky David Jong was her date for the night. You would think that he would be smiling instead of the blank look. Haha.

I wonder what they were talking about:

Also, Tracy Tan, finalist from this year’s Miss Universe Malaysia 2010 was here. I’m not going to post up the pictures where we are both standing. She’ll make 80% of Malaysian guys look short.

Also, to answer a question she gets asked a lot: She’s not Korean, or part Korean. She’s Chinese.
And then, after the tasting, there was the afterparty at G-Six!

We got to sit at one of the private VIP areas. Apparently there’s a minimum spend of RM15K to sit there.
Thanks to Riche Monde Malaysia for the bountiful alcohol!

Lastly, let’s cap off this post with two lovely ladies: Dalvin Parsh (my comrade for electro nights at Zouk), and Crystal Liew, who I first met at a mamak stall!

That’s it for now. Btw, here’s what I’m going for next. Upcoming parties: AXE Malaysia launch, Sex In The City Movie Premiere & Party with Moet & Chandon…the list goes on
(Appreciate your feedback on the new caption style and watermark too btw, do drop a comment! Also, do let me know if my photography is getting better or worse. I’m contemplating upgrading my camera and gear soon, but not before I’ve mastered enough of what I have first)
