The Miss Universe Malaysia Gala Night was held recently at Royale Chulan on the 15th of May 2010, and I was there together with Advertlets Bloggers. Advertlets is the official partner for Miss Universe Malaysia 2010 this year, and so far we’ve been given very good access to the pageant events.

This is one of 4 posts about the event! (Too many pictures!)

As I had to look sharp (I was presenting the subsidiary title of Advertlets Best Blogger to one of the contestants), I bought a new suit that I’ve been eyeing a while. Surprisingly affordable and very worth it. It’s shiny and Korean popstar-styled :)

The stage setup was nothing less than grand and super bling:

The food was tantalizing:

There were three rounds: The introduction of the contestants…

In front (red): Dalvin Parsh (FHM Girl Next Door 2009 finalist), and on the right, Tiong Sue Lynn, newspaper columnist (The Bangsar Babe) and Advertlets Blogger!

The swimsuit round…(that’s Zoe btw, the youngest contestant at only 18 years old)

And of course, the evening gown round…that’s Sarah Yap, part time emcee and ICSA student.

(Don’t worry, all this will be covered in more detail in the next few posts!

After the evening gowns, it was time to present the subsidiary awards before the main item.

I got to go first. See, this is why I named my company starting with “A”.

Me going up on stage looking very shiny to present the award with Harith Iskandar announcing the results. BOOOOO to the friends who missed me going up on stage due to having to leave the table to go out for a cigarette break. As someone I know would usually say… “Cis!”

Anyway, the winner was none other than Chow Xiang Yee. This is me putting the Advertlets Best Blogger sash on her - I am happy that I did not mess it up, ahah. It’s not that easy to put on!

Just to give you a bit of background, this year’s pageant had very much an online element. With Advertlets as the online partner, the Advertlets & MUMO teams devised a way for the contestants to blog throughout pageant week…and we were very pleased at the results. Within a very busy 1 month, the 18 contestants posted close to 200 posts that attracted more than 50,000+ pageviews and over 290 comments!

In judging who would be the best blogger, the following criteria was selected: “The winner will be chosen based on writing ability, interestingness and how they’ve shared their experiences in the pageant so far in the blog, as well as ability to engage with their blog audience.”

Chow Xiang Yee was selected based on her diligence in blogging (every other day!), the over 90 blog comments on her posts (and rajin-ness in replying comments), as well as her traffic.

A bit about Xiang Yee. I think this picture sums her up quite well:

Bikini AND glasses. Now that’s hot. Don’t just look at her toned body, defined nose and plentiful, well-sculpted eyebrows, she’s not JUST a beauty - Xiang Yee is an Financial Auditor at one of the Big 4 firms. (I won’t tell you which one, since you’ll probably wait for her in front of her office).

And after this post on how she stays healthy and fit, it became very clear that she had gotten the hang of blogging quite well.

Personally I think she looks better with her hair down la:

Here’s a pic of her colleagues/fans came to support her at the Miss Universe Malaysia 2010 Marigold Body Beautiful Challenge:

“I now present Chow Xiang Yee, the Advertlets Best Blogger Award!”

Congratulations again, Xiang Yee!

Some of you commented that I’m standing like a little boy in these photos. To tell the truth I was a bit nervous, and well, it’s always been something I wanted to do la :) You know, presenting a subsidiary title. Or at least just standing on stage with beauty queens. I just didn’t expect it to be this soon in life, and I’m definitely grateful. It was one of the most awesome nights of my life.

Malaysia’s Miss Universe is getting more and more interesting. Singapore’s is just downright boring. That’s coming from a Singaporean that is.

Where did you get that suit by the way? It’s darn sleek! I like it too. You sure it’s not made out of kevlar and bullet proof? LOL!
