It's yours, take it.

This saying came to my knowledge recently,  ‘what’s yours is yours’, and it struck me as something either poignant, or something to say to annoy people if they complain about their life, or what they don’t have.

More specifically, a pretty friend (this is important for the purposes of the story), told me that a friend first told her this, as she was wondering what her chances were of winning a beauty pageant that she would be taking part in.

It was her first time. The friend simply answered - “What’s yours is yours”. She found the saying rather annoying, as she was probably expecting encouragement.

It’s interesting, because this be interpreted in four different ways:

  1. Negative: What’s yours is yours - you will get only what you deserve, and it may not be a lot.
  2. Positive: What’s yours is yours - you will get what you desire, in time, but you have to wait.
  3. Neutral: What’s yours is yours - if it’s meant to be, it will happen.
  4. Asinine: What’s your is yours - stating the obvious. You don’t have it yet, so it’s not yours. Maybe it will be, maybe it won’t.

What’s your take on “what’s yours is yours?”?

PS: Try it on your friends, see how they respond. Depending on their personality, they will either be awestruck at your wisdom, or annoyed at your smart-aleckiness. Either way, tell them you heard all about it here.

Haha will try that on my friend!
Seems like I am positive enough to think at the 2nd interpretation :)

It all depends on how u say it, if u answer it with frustration, it surely will be interpreted as negative. Likewise, if u use encouraging tone, it will be positive. When someone just simply blurt out the words, most likely he just meant wat he says:)

wah..seriously, I would have guessed my friend would be offended because I always say that to other people. I only mean that just leave it to fate. xD
