The ultimate solution, from the brilliant XKCD.com

Saw this recently (above). Reminds me of about a month back when I got stuck because two cars double parked in front of me, and neither of them inconsiderate idiots left their phone numbers. Horning repeatedly or paging for the car owners didn’t help. So, how did I eventually get out?

Dear Josh.my Blog readers, here’s a challenge for you!

What would you do? Leave your answer in the comments...

What would you do?

So what do you think…how would you get your car out if you were in the same situation?

Notes for you:

  • None of the cars, or motorcycles pictured were damaged in the incident (although I can’t say that I didn’t feel like doing it to those two cars…)
  • Neither of the drivers left their phone numbers
  • Handbrakes on both cars are on.
  • No point paging the car owner, they never showed up
  • Idiot #2’s driver side car window is slightly open
  • Width of the gap is equivalent to the width of my car
  • No, cannot carry the car (My car is not a Kancil). None of the cars were carried.
  • There are about 2-3 more people that can help you if needed.
  • No additional tools were used besides hands.
  • No tow trucks were involved.

    My guess:
    - First, straighten the bike. this is to make more space for your car
    - next, get your hands busy with the steering.
    - with the amount of space available, i think should slowly be able to turn out between the gaps (between the 2 donkeys’ cars) with people looking out for you. Either using the front or the back of your car ^^

Break #2’s car window, undo handbrake, push it in front.
Then, break #1’s car window, serves the driver right for being douchey.

Leo: Still not enough of a turning circle. I tried this at first.

Lainie: Good idea, but not what I did (although I wanted to, haha!)

Open the car door with a ruler or clothe hanger, or using a screwdriver. Steal whatever he has inside. Go shopping.

Wow, seems my blog readers are pretty smart :)

Anyway, 2-3 of you seem to have figured it out already, here’s the complete list of what I had to do.

    - Release the kickstand on the motorbike and push it back to allow for more turning space.
    - Reach in the slightly open window to pull up the door lock on idiot #2’s car.
    - Then, release idiot #2’s handbrake and push the car.
    - Freedom!

Of course, this wasn’t before I tried to turn out first without moving the cars…it was crazy, like about half an inch clearing space, practically impossible. I then spent more time turning back into the original position, before eventually shifting the cars. Total time to shift around everything, including trying to turn out, was probably 15-20 minutes.

Then again, I figure if I didn’t do it, I would probably be stuck there for 3-4 hours…
