David Tao & Tay Kewei

David Tao & Tay Kewei

A Singaporean friend of mine, Tay Kewei was recently (well, for now still is) in Malaysia for A-Mei’s (阿妹) concert in Kuala Lumpur. She’ll be performing this weekend actually (Friday, 20th March 2009), so look out for her. Kewei’s a singer that one day, will be the next big thing :) She’s already toured with David Tao, Lee Hom, and now A-Mei. Check out her blog if you like.

Having a few days free before the concert, we decided to catch up. So, given that she’s Singaporean and more or less eats the same food that we Malaysians eat (except that Malaysian food is better la), we decided to go for Japanese food.

I decided to bring my camera, as I’ve been meaning to have more of my own photography on this blog and develop my shooting skills. Comments are welcome (and of course, comments on the quality of the pictures, framing etc, not just that ‘wah, the subject is cute’ that kind of thing).

Green tea!

Kewei loves sushi!

Kewei loves sushi!

We went to Kiku Zakura @ Mid Valley. It’s the same floor as the cinema. Seems that they’ve changed the menu quite a bit recently, which isn’t a good thing actually.

Quite a few choices seem to have been eliminated - the menu seems smaller now.

Seems to be slightly more expensive now, and the portions are rather small compared to previously.

Thanfully - must say the food is still good though, and for about RM50, the bento set I ordered had quite decent sashimi.

And although Kewei is a skinny girl, she really can eat wei.

After that, we went shopping around. It’s been a while since I’ve been to Zara.

They have some nice jackets, but I was successful in resisting the urge to buy.

Kewei bought a pair of jeans…although she just bought 2 recently that she doesn’t really wear.

I think it’s a girl thing…

I love the colours on this one

Some of Kewei’s friends were performing at Backyard Pub, so we decided to go there afterwards. Dennis Lau, our mutual friend dropped by as well.

Dennis Lau is what most girls would consider quite lengchai. Dennis plays the violin actually, and is a professional musician. Read his blog here. However, sorry girls, he’s gay. No, actually he has recently found true love.

Anyway, managed to get a few decent shots of the band, though most turned out bad due to the fact that I was trying to take it using long exposure settings instead of using the flash.

Akasha is a world music band - not quite sure how to describe them, but it’s a mix of bluegrass, folk and sitar sounds.

Lastly, a shot of us three…

That’s it for now. Look out for more posts soon…I will be attending the Sunburst Music Festival and Zouk’s 5th Anniversary, it’s going to be fun!
