Help Josh Lim Make A Spectacular Decision!

Ladies & gentlemen. Blog readers, commentors and silent stalkers. Fellow wearers of spectacles. Hear me, hear me. Like choosing a good wife, choosing a good pair of specs is never easy. Choose the wrong one, and you could end up regretting it terribly. Well chosen glasses look good on you - and can even become a trademark look. The right glasses can spark buying waves - see this article about the popularity of ‘Sarah Palin glasses’ being sold out in Malaysia. It can be part of your identity, like the Horn Rimmed Glasses Man from Heroes. They can also make you pretty damn cute and hot at the same time - see ‘Tina Fey Glasses’. So as you can see, this is not a decision to be taken lightly.

Sometimes also, if you’re used to seeing people with their glasses, they can be almost unrecognizable without it. Who do you think this is?

Josh Lim, 2004-2009. Different hairstyles & colors, different body weight...but the spectacles have remained the same. Yes, I was damn skinny in 2004.
For the past 5 years, I have been wearing the same pair of spectacles, as you can see from the montage at the left. All the way, over the years, in sickness and in health - from after dropping out of college, to the years of Josh Lim & Associates, then, starting Advertlets, all the way until today. From when I was damn light - only 55kg(!) until now, at a more normal weight.
Through short hair, long hair, Korean style hair, good boy style hair, dyed hair, streaked hair, and more - the spectacles, have remained the same. The story goes as this: Cursed with hereditary bad eyesight (my whole family wears glasses), I have been wearing spectacles for a large portion of my life, since I was in primary school. Starting with large plastic ‘uncle’ glasses, they slowly became more presentable, as I started choosing them myself instead of letting my mother choose for me…
As amazing as the spectacles are, they are not for everyone. As you can see, she's a lot hotter without the glasses. Yes, those are my specs she's wearing. For some reason, some girls like to wear my specs to see how it looks like.
And in 2004, one fateful day in Desa Sri Hartamas, I saw the perfect pair. They called out to me from the window of an optometry centre. And I knew had to have it. So I bought it. And the pair I bought that day, the pair I have until today is a handcrafted Mikli, by Alain Mikli
From what I can see, (because its blur when I take my spectacles off) it appears to be a captivating mix of metal, plastic, screws, string (to hold up the lenses as it is a half frame design), and rubber nosepads. Shiny in front, with a black metal toning. The legs have a curved detailing, and a carbon fibre pattern. The lenses automatically get darker when the sun is too bright, thanks to UV activated photo grey technology. This pair rocks extremely hard indeed.

These spectacles have remained on my head as I bleached and dyed my hair over the years (not recommended - the dye will gunk up and you have to scrape it off). It has been showered with, daily. It has been sat on. It has gotten lost in my bedsheets and I have rolled over it.
It has been taken off wildly by lustful beauties in sexual frenzy as they ravished me, removing also the rest of my clothes as well. It has been knocked off my face at clubs by drunk people as they stumbled around.
But it has remained intact, thanks to fine craftsmanship, and some luck. I didn’t know this until recently, but Alain Mikli, the same guy who designed my specs, is also the guy who custom made Kanye West’s custom ’shutter shades’ in the video for ‘Stronger’.

That’s how shutter shades (well, the Made In China version at least) look like on me…don’t know whose hand is that.

The current pair I have is cool, but after 5 years, I think I should get a new one. Apparently, my large nose and its shape, and largeness is very conducive to wearing glasses. However, there’s still the issue of face shape & aesthetics. Also, because I have high astigmatism, thin lenses are out of the question, so thin or rimless frames can’t be used. Quality materials are definitely of concern, as I’ll like this to last me for a while too. But of course, the design of the frame is very important. Which brings me to the question…

Im also a specky girl! tho i hate to wear specs so much cuz it make me look less pretty. sobs sobs. But i had to so i just got mine recently.
I think u look good in frame-less and Bold frame. which is…A3 and D2. Just like mine, bold frame are young and stylish? i guess

My choice: C2, D2, F2 with short hairstyle like the last two lines. I also think you look better with red-hair colour tones instead of copper.

I think you would look better off not having the “double-eyebrows” specs because they make one look…. hmm… hmmm.

I’mma go with C4, E2 or B3 because they look alot like your old spectacles. You’ve been wearing the same spectacles for 5 years and it’s a miracle that you can still wear it without your power fluctuating (or lenses getting scratched lol). So keep the style you’ve had for the last 5 years! Don’t break the streak!
