Well, technically it’s 10 days late la. Since the first post of Josh Lim’s Adventures was on the 6th of January.

This is very nice timing, as the 6th of August 2009 would be the 6 month anniversary of the blog, and also, my birthday. Hint, hint.

So, why am I writing this?

For me as a newbie personal blogger, it’s good for me to get an idea of how my blog is doing, and also, for bloggers hopefully this may give you ideas on how to improve your content and increase your traffic, as well as where people come from. Not doing this to show off k

So how has this blog fared so far anyway? Read on…

Traffic to this blog is now averaging about 150 unique visitors a day.
Most visitors ever in one day: 321 visitors.

The average visitor to this blog stays for about 2 minutes and 17 seconds.
The new visitors come here for an average of 1 minute and 33 seconds.
Returning visitors come here for an average of 2 minutes and 39 seconds.
Notice that returning visitors stay much, much longer.

There is an almost equal amount of new visitors (never been here before), and returning visitors (all the cool people who come here for the 2nd time onwards). Given that this blog is still new, this statistic is to be expected. Increasing new visitors as well as maintaining the loyalty of return visitors is equally important in the next few months to come.

Bloggers, there are a lot of good reasons to move to Wordpress on your own domain, the above stats is one of the good ideas why. Gives you a good idea of how interested visitors are in your content, and also how often you post on average.

What can you conclude from this? So far I’ve been relatively disciplined in updating my blog, and that has paid off! I will probably try to increase it to posting 0.75 posts a day (meaning, about 5 posts every 7 days, for example). Or I might do longer, more detailed posts. See below.

By far, the most commented post is also the one that took about 4 hours to do, ‘Help Josh Lim Make A Spectacular Decision!’, with 28 comments. Comments are still welcome, I have yet to purchase a new pair. Yes, taking the effort to put together relevant images and content helps. The 4 hours involved included: compiling over 40 pictures into montages, as well as sourcing for related images online, and also writing the post, and spell checking.

The most popular post so far seems to be of the Rihanna / Chris Brown assault fiasco. Getting a lot of search engine queries for this. Also, do you guys think Rihanna looks Chinese?

The most popular party posts are the one of the Ruumz event as well as Armin Van Buuren which features lots of pictures of hot chicks in sexy, fashionable clothing. I wonder why those posts are so popular, hmm…

Generally, the relationship-themed posts fared quite well, including why he wants to string you along, the girl I thought was cute who turned out to be a lesbian, and the fact that you can’t have it all.

2. Top blog referrers to this blog include Sonia Yong, Amanda Choe, Ellie Chee, JiaShin, Tiffany, Shermaine, Vanessa, and Eu Veng. Thanks girls (and one guy!). As you may notice from this, other blogs are perhaps one of the best sources of traffic for your blog.

3.  The Advertlets Titan Widget features 6-12 bloggers every month. We use it to highlight interesting/newbie/cool/hot/talented/deserving bloggers, but I don’t know why I’m there this month la Seriously though, the main reason is because I wanted to see how it would perform from the direct perspective of a blogger. Generally, it has performed well for all bloggers who have been featured, and usually there is an increase of 2X-8X in blog traffic for most involved, and about half of all that traffic being ’sticky’ and keeps coming back after finding out about the blog for the first time. Though, the traffic increase is lost very rapidly if the blogger does not update frequently during the feature period.

4. Yes, I write about my latest blog posts on Facebook, it works quite well. There’s also a Facebook group for Josh Lim’s Adventures. I got this idea from Jason ‘Smashpop’ Goh who also has a Facebook group for his blog.
