Sometimes It’s Really Not You…It’s Her (And Her ‘Lady Friend’)

So this happened a couple of months back. I came across her on Facebook (her profile picture stood out), and consequently, in real life, by chance. And we had a good chat when we did, in fact, she asked if I was who I thought she was. And in the weeks to come, I kept bumping into her at clubs, making delectable little snippets of conversation as we did. She had soft, fluffy hair that curled upwards, and matched her tan features and petite size.

And, she had an exotic misspelling of a common English name - what made it even more sexy was the fact that it was very likely to actually be in her identity card. The last aspect is especially relevant, especially to pertaining to Chinese people. Some of you will know what I mean, some will not. (And yes, mine is).

Anyway, turns out we have one mutual friend. So I thought, why not consult the friend first whether she’s taken, and perhaps, if I should ask her out?

Friend is shown as ‘N’, for the purposes of this conversation:

Me: Hello N! You know that girl, our mutual friend ‘Name Of Girl?’ with the exotic hair and name?

N: Yeah, what about her.

Me: She’s kind of cute. Do you think I should ask her out?

N: No, because I don’t think she’ll be into you.

Me: Hello, ouch! Er, how do you know that? Has she said something?

N: No…

Me: Then, is she already taken or something?

N: No…

Me: Hmm. Then she’s probably into someone at the moment?

N: No…

Me: She’s not into guys like me?

N: No…wait, in a way…

Me: Wait, are you making a judgment call based on your wealth of experience that it’s not likely something works out between the two of us, based on our personality types?

N: No…

Me: Then, how do you know?

N: Because, Josh, she’s into girls. She’s a lesbian.

Me: Damn. I haven’t thought of that. No wonder lah.

N: Sorry babe!

Me: Thank you. You are a good friend, and your counsel has made we wiser.

The quiet knowledge of this made me feel differently the next time I saw her. I hope she gets someone as cute as her.

This story goes out to my one (openly) lesbian reader (there may be more of you), and should serve as a cautionary tale to my male ones to consider that yes, it is always a possibility. Moral of the story: Let your friends finish their sentences, and also, it’s not always your fault.

Haha… Cute story! If she’s a flailing lesbian, then you may still have a chance. If she’s a straight lesbian, then no.

Sadly, the only lesbians I know are the ‘manly’ ones. Which leads me to a question:

Are girls who are into girls that behave and dress like males really lesbians?

(’cause you know, homosexuality is really suppose to be about liking your same sex.)

and yea i agree.. lessbians are gorgeous and pretty! or some of them handsome!
even my ex housemate is a lessbian (the handsome type) and she often brings her gf back to my house and they sleep together =P

joshuachay: ‘Femme’ and ‘Femme’ relationships do exist. The ‘manly’ ones you know - they don’t date each other right? I was advised by a lesbian that it never happens. Btw, sexual identity and sexual preference are different things. Theoretically, an effiminate man and a manly woman can date, and they’ll be ’straight’ in theory.
